Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.1 - Examine the structure of fiction and nonfiction texts

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • State the features of fiction and non-fiction texts from prior knowledge and new learning.
  • Identify the structural elements (plot, setting, characters, chapters, headings, subheadings) present in given fiction and non-fiction prose passages.
  • Distinguish between fiction and non-fiction texts by examining their structure and purpose.
  • Justify with evidence whether a given passage is fiction or non-fiction based on its structural features.
  • Work collaboratively in mixed-ability groups to present findings on the structure of selected prose texts.
