Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.2.LI.4 - Appreciate dramatic texts for its empathetic effect

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define empathy and explain how it differs from sympathy in the context of drama appreciation.
  2. Identify moments in a dramatic text where a character’s situation invites an empathetic response from the audience.
  3. Explain how plot events, setting, and characterisation work together to create empathetic effect in a play.
  4. Present a personal response to a character’s speech or situation using verbal and non-verbal language, while keeping the response objective and free from personal bias.
  5. Apply the skill of empathetic appreciation to a short scene from a level appropriate Ghanaian drama text.
