Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.3 - Identify the various conflicts in drama texts and explain how these move the plot forward

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define conflict in drama and distinguish it from plot and other dramatic elements studied in Weeks 16 and 17.
  2. Identify at least four types of conflict (man vs man, man vs self, man vs society, man vs nature/supernatural) in a given drama text or film excerpt.
  3. Explain, with textual evidence, how a specific conflict creates tension, triggers events, and moves the plot forward in a selected drama text.
  4. Analyse a conflict scenario and predict how it might drive the next stage of the plot, using extended critical thinking and reasoning.
  5. Present and defend an analysis of conflict in a group presentation, using appropriate dramatic language.

Experiential Learning:

- Learners watch a film to review their knowledge on conflict and identify examples in it. This activity will develop critical thinking skills.

- In mixed ability/gender groups, learners apply the knowledge gained in explaining how conflicts move the plot forward.

- Learners in groups, develop the ability to learn from others, to understand and respect the needs, perspectives and actions of others.

- Groups present their work while teacher guides learners with questions to critique the presentations. Learners will develop the skills of public speaking and leadership as they make presentations.
