Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.2.LI.4 - Administer first aid to victims of common workplace accidents.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define first aid and explain its purpose and legal importance in Ghanaian workplaces.
  2. Identify and state the uses of at least ten basic first aid tools and materials found in a standard workplace first aid kit.
  3. Demonstrate the correct step-by-step procedure for administering first aid to a victim of bleeding, burns, fractures, choking, or electric shock.
  4. Assess a workplace accident scene for safety before approaching a victim, applying the principles of primary survey (DRABC: Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation).
  5. Justify the importance of proper documentation and handover of accident victims to professional medical care, showing awareness of the limits of a first aider’s role.

Initiating Talk for Learning: In a learner-led/moderated discussion, learners share experiences on what first aid is and the administration of first aid. Furthermore, learners discuss the importance of first aid and list basic tools and materials used.
Experiential Learning: Learners watch videos on tools and materials for first aid and how they are used. Learners discuss how to administer first aid to victims of common workplace accidents. Learner roleplay workplace accidents for some colleagues to administer first aid. Other learners observe and comment.
