Engineering in Society

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.1 - Define the sustainable development goals.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in their own words, identifying them as a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015.
  2. Recall, with at least 80 percent accuracy, the four founding principles or key features of the SDGs (universality, integration, leaving no one behind, and the 2030 timeframe).
  3. List at least five SDGs from memory and describe the main focus of each.
  4. Explain briefly how the SDGs build on the earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), noting at least one difference between the two.
  5. Participate in a moderated discussion on Ghana’s progress towards the SDGs, expressing a reasoned opinion on one goal they believe Ghana is achieving well and one where more work is needed.
