Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.3.LI.4 - Demonstrate ethical behaviour in the field of engineering.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and classify at least five specific behaviours in engineering scenarios as ethical or unethical, with reasons.
  2. Justify a chosen course of action in a given ethical dilemma by weighing the consequences for the public, the client and the profession.
  3. Critique a peer’s proposed action in an engineering scenario using a professional ethics standard such as honesty, integrity, safety or accountability.
  4. Construct their own realistic engineering scenario involving an ethical choice and propose a defensible course of action.
  5. Explain how Ghana’s national core values, including tolerance, commitment and hard work, connect to ethical professional conduct in engineering.

Collaborative Learning:
- Present various case study scenarios reflecting conduct by engineers for learners to discuss whether each conduct is ethical or unethical.
- The facilitator presents various scenarios for learners to indicate their course of action while others critique or endorse the intended actions.
- Learners come up with various scenarios for colleagues to express their possible actions for discussion. Encourage learners to accept and present views in a tolerant and respectful manner
