Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.1.1.LI.4 - Outline the common skill set required by the respective engineering disciplines.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- List at least five common skills shared by professionals across different engineering disciplines.
- Explain why communication and teamwork are essential skills for engineers in every discipline.
- Distinguish between technical skills (discipline-specific) and transferable skills (common to all engineering fields).
- Work in groups to create a concept map showing the common skill set required by engineering disciplines studied in Weeks 1 to 3.
- Present group findings to the class and respond respectfully to contributions from other groups.

Managing Talk for Learning: In a moderated discussion, learners share their understanding of the common skillset required by the respective disciplines. Organise or summarise their thoughts using webbing or concept maps. Building on What Others say: Other groups add to the content presented by each group in a respectful manner. Groups should be encouraged to tolerate others' views. Assessment (1.1.1.AS.4). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding.
