Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.4.1.LI.5 - Assess the socio-economic and political developments in Ghana from 1993 to 2007.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. identify the political parties that won elections and formed governments in Ghana from 1993 to 2007, naming their leaders and key officials.
  2. describe the major economic policies introduced by the governments of the Fourth Republic from 1993 to 2007 and explain their intended purposes.
  3. analyse the social policies and programmes implemented between 1993 and 2007, including education, health and gender-related initiatives.
  4. compare the socio-economic and political achievements across the three governments of this period using evidence from primary and secondary sources.
  5. assess the strengths and weaknesses of the socio-economic and political developments in Ghana from 1993 to 2007, forming a balanced judgement supported by historical evidence.

Collaborative Learning:
- Learners brainstorm political parties that have ruled Ghana since 1993.
- In pairs, learners create picture-galleries of presidents, vice presidents and other key political leaders in Ghana from 1993 to 2007.
Experiential Learning:
- Using relevant primary sources, learners analyse the economic policies of political parties that have ruled Ghana from 1993 to 2007.
- In small groups, learners trace some major political events that took place in Ghana from 1993 to 2007 including, general elections, handing over and inauguration of political officials.
