Indicator: 2.2.2.LI.3 - Assess the significance of the EC in Ghana’s democratic practice.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain the constitutional mandate and core functions of the Electoral Commission of Ghana as provided for in the 1992 Republican Constitution.
  2. Assess the role of the Electoral Commission in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in Ghana’s democratic practice.
  3. Evaluate the significance of the values of integrity, honesty, transparency, and accountability in the work of the Electoral Commission, using concrete examples from Ghana’s electoral history.
  4. Critically analyse challenges confronting the Electoral Commission and propose practical measures to strengthen its credibility and independence.
  5. Apply the concept of democratic consolidation to assess how the Electoral Commission’s work shapes citizens’ trust in Ghana’s democracy.
