Indicator: 2.1.1.LI.1 - Explain the concept of citizenship

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define citizenship in their own words and identify the two main elements of a citizen-state relationship (membership and reciprocal obligations).
Distinguish between a citizen and a non-citizen (foreigner/alien) using concrete examples from Ghanaian society.
Explain at least three key values associated with good citizenship in Ghana, such as patriotism, responsibility, obedience, and commitment, giving a practical example of each.
Discuss why it is important to accommodate minority interests within Ghanaian citizenship, demonstrating respect for divergent views during class discussion.
Use library or e-library resources to research at least one fact about Ghanaian citizenship and present it to the class, citing the source.

Talk for Learning: Brainstorm on the concept of citizenship and probe further to stimulate critical thinking. Attention must be given to all learners to unearth the values of responsibility, patriotism, commitment and obedience. Further examine how to accommodate minority interests.
