Design and Drawing for Manufacture

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.2.1.LI.1 - Explain the application of detailed drawings in production drawings.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define a detailed drawing and state its purpose within the production drawing process.
  2. Identify the key elements that must be included in a detailed drawing, such as dimensions, tolerances, surface finish symbols, and material specifications.
  3. Explain how detailed drawings differ from assembly drawings and how they work together in the manufacturing process.
  4. Interpret a simple detailed drawing of a machine component and verbally explain what information it communicates to a machinist or technician.
  5. Present findings from group research on the application of detailed drawings, using respectful communication and demonstrating open-mindedness to feedback.
