SHS2 Manufacturing Engineering · Semester 1, Week 15
Design and Drawing for Manufacture
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.2 - Apply freehand sketch in product design.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Produce a freehand sketch of a simple object or product idea using correct proportions and clear line work.
- Apply freehand sketching to communicate a design solution for a real need identified in their school or local community.
- Refine their own sketches based on constructive feedback received from peers during think-pair-share activities.
- Explain how freehand sketching serves as a thinking tool during the early stages of product design.
- Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of their own and peers’ sketches using simple design criteria.

Project-Based Learning: - Discuss with learners a particular need in the school or local community and let them provide a free-hand sketch of their solution to the problem. - Learners think-pair-share their solutions and receive feedback from peers. Encourage learners to accept criticisms in a respectful manner. Teaching and Learning Materials: - * Snap cubes - * Drawing instruments - * Chats or samples of first angle projection drawings - * Textbooks * Library facilities - * Internet access * ICT equipment - * Sample assemble drawing * Detailed drawing or charts Assessment (2.2.1.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
