SHS1 Manufacturing Engineering · Semester 2, Week 9

Manufacturing Processes

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.2.LI.1 - Understand the fundamentals of metal forming.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define metal forming and distinguish it from other manufacturing processes such as machining and casting.
  2. Classify metal forming processes into bulk deformation and sheet metal working.
  3. Explain the basic principles of plasticity, yield strength and ductility as they apply to metal forming.
  4. Identify the factors that influence the choice of a metal forming process.
  5. Describe the importance of metal forming in everyday products and Ghanaian industry.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Experiential Learning:
- Show learners videos of metal forming processes in the metal working industry.
- Learners think-pair-share basic processes in metal forming and present their findings in class. Organise learners' thoughts using mind mapping.
Teaching and Learning Materials:
- * Visuals * Projectors * Textbooks
- * Library resources * Educational tours
- * Internet access * Audio visuals
Assessment (1.3.2.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 3 Strategic reasoning.
