Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.2.LI.2 - Differentiate between desktops, laptops, smart gadgets (tablets), and servers.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify each of the four device types (desktop, laptop, tablet, server) from pictures or physical devices and state at least one defining feature of each.
  • Compare and contrast the four device types across at least four criteria, such as portability, processing power, typical use, and cost, using a table or comparison chart.
  • Classify real-world examples of computing devices found in their school and community into the correct category and justify their classification.
  • Explain the role of servers in a network by tracing how a request from a desktop or laptop reaches a server and returns with information.
  • Create a labelled diagram or poster that accurately represents the differences and similarities among the four device types, and present it orally to a partner with clear reasoning.
