Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.3.3.LI.3 - Describe the factors that affect induced emf and explain direction of induced current using mnemonics of the Fleming’s Right Hand Rule.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State the four factors that affect the magnitude of induced emf in a conductor moving through a magnetic field.
- Explain, using the relationship emf = BLv, how each factor (magnetic flux density, length of conductor, velocity) influences the size of the induced emf.
- State Fleming’s Right Hand Rule correctly from memory.
- Apply Fleming’s Right Hand Rule using the “First finger = Field, thuMb = Motion, seCond finger = Current” mnemonic to determine the direction of induced current in a given scenario.
- Use Fleming’s Right Hand Rule to solve at least three numerical or descriptive problems involving a conductor moving in a magnetic field.
