Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.4 - Explain weightlessness
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define weightlessness as the condition in which the apparent weight of a body is zero, and distinguish it from the absence of gravity.
- Explain why astronauts in orbit experience weightlessness, using the concept of continuous free fall around the Earth.
- Identify and describe at least two situations on Earth where a state of weightlessness or near-weightlessness can be experienced.
- Analyse how the human body responds to prolonged weightlessness and suggest measures astronauts use to counter these effects.
- Discuss the contributions of women and underrepresented groups to space science and evaluate biases in space-related career opportunities.
