Strand
Electric Field, Magnetic Field and Electronics (Strand 3)
Sub-strand
Electrostatics (3.1)
Content standard
2.3.1.CS.2 - Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the structure and operation of capacitors. 2.3.1.LO.2 Explain and analyse the structure and working principles of capacitors and calculate capacitance.
Indicator
2.3.1.LI.4 - Describe the behaviour of a capacitor in DC and AC circuits.
Suggested placement
Semester 2, Week 4 (Week 24 of the year)

Our suggestion, laid out in curriculum order across three terms of twelve weeks. NaCCA does not fix the week, so follow your school's scheme of learning.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Project-Based Learning: Learners build a circuit to observe the behaviour of a capacitor in a DC circuit and then in an AC circuit. Learners record their observations and discuss with their colleagues in groups of mixed-ability.
Investigate and discuss the historical and contemporary contributions of individuals, including women and individuals with disabilities, to the development of the capacitor.
Assessment (2.3.1.AS.4). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall.
Teaching and Learning Resources:
- Science experimental kit with capacitors and connectors
