Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.2 - Identify electrons as mobile charge carriers.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Describe the electron as a negatively charged subatomic particle with negligible mass that is free to move in certain materials.
- Explain that electric current in a conductor is the flow of free (mobile) electrons from a region of excess to a region of deficiency.
- Distinguish between situations where electrons are in excess and where they are deficient in a body, and predict the direction of electron flow.
- Demonstrate, using simple demonstrations or videos, that electrons can be transferred from one object to another by friction (charging by rubbing).
- Apply the concept of mobile electrons to explain the function of the gold leaf electroscope, building on the previous lesson.
