Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.2.2.LI.1 - Describe the processes involved in image formation in plane mirrors and their characteristics
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State that light rays reflect off a plane mirror according to the law of reflection, with the angle of incidence equal to the angle of reflection
- Describe the process by which the brain interprets reflected rays to form a virtual image behind the mirror
- List the characteristics of an image formed by a plane mirror (virtual, erect, same size, laterally inverted, same distance behind the mirror as the object is in front)
- Demonstrate the location of an image in a plane mirror using the ray-tracing method with optical pins
- Explain why the image in a plane mirror cannot be formed on a screen

Semester 1, Week 17
(Week 17 of the year)
Our suggestion, laid out in curriculum order across three terms of twelve weeks. NaCCA does not fix the week, so follow your school's scheme of learning.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Collaborative learning: Set up experiment for students in groups of mixed abilities to locate images in a plane mirror. Foster an inclusive and respectful classroom culture and address bias in teaching materials and examples. Assessment (1.2.2.AS.1). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall. Teaching and Learning Resources: - Plane mirror strip with holder, - Drawing boards, - Optical pins, - A4 sheets, - Ruler, - Protractor, - Thumb tugs/drawing pins
