SHS1 Physics · Semester 1, Week 7
Matter
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.1.2.LI.2 - Distinguish between the molecular arrangement of the various states.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Describe the molecular arrangement in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma in terms of the spacing between particles, the strength of forces between particles, and the movement of particles.
- Draw simple diagrams showing the arrangement of particles in each of the four states of matter, labelling the key features correctly.
- Compare any two states of matter by stating at least two differences in their molecular arrangement.
- Predict the state of a substance at a given temperature based on the arrangement and energy of its particles.
- Collaborate respectfully in mixed-ability groups to present findings on the molecular structure of the four states of matter.

Talk for Learning: Extend the discussion from three states to four states i.e., solid, liquid, gas and plasma. Discussion should look at the molecular arrangement of the various states. Foster respect and inclusion in physics, creating an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment that values the contributions of individuals from all backgrounds and genders. Assessment (1.1.2.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall.
