Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.1.3.LI.5 - Discuss the concept of first aid and the common items needed for a successful first aid application.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define first aid in their own words and state its three main aims (preserve life, prevent worsening, promote recovery).
  2. Identify and describe the uses of at least eight common items found in a standard first aid box.
  3. Explain the basic principles a first aider must follow before and while giving care.
  4. Demonstrate the correct first aid response for a minor burn, a cut, and a nosebleed.
  5. Work collaboratively in mixed groups to research first aid information using ICT tools and present findings logically to the class.

Digital-based learning: Learners with the aid of their ICT tools search for the meaning of first aid. They identify the basic principles and importance of first aid and share their findings with others.

Assessment (2.1.3.AS.5): Level 2: For a minor burn, what is the appropriate first aid treatment? Level 3: Describe how five items in a first aid box are used. Level 4: A classmate cuts his hand deeply with on a piece of glass. Explain the steps a first aider would take to provide first aid until professional help arrives.
