Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.1.2.LI.7 - Apply basic skills in performing individual and team sports (e.g., volleyball - underarm serve and digging reception in volleyball).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Describe the correct stance, hand positioning, and body movement for performing the underarm serve in volleyball.
  2. Demonstrate the underarm serve technique with correct foot placement, ball toss, and contact point.
  3. Describe the ideal body position, hand positioning, and movement for digging a volleyball.
  4. Demonstrate the digging reception technique with proper stance and forearm contact.
  5. Work collaboratively in mixed-ability and mixed-gender groups to practise both skills and give constructive feedback to peers.

Collaborative learning: In a circular formation, learners in mixed-ability and mixed-gender groupings practice the underarm serve technique. Learners practice the techniques for digging; the stance, hand positioning and body movement.

Assessment (2.1.2.AS.7): Level 2: Describe the ideal body position and movement for the executing an underarm serve in volleyball. Level 3: Demonstrate how to perform one of the skills learnt in volleyball.
