Learning Objectives
Indicator: 1.2.1.LI.2 - Say words of consolation or comfort to a person who loses a property or business.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Recall and recite at least four Arabic phrases of consolation used when someone loses property or business, including “اللهم أجرنا في مصيبتنا، واخلُف لنا خيرا منها” (O Allah, reward us in our affliction and compensate us with something better).
- Distinguish between appropriate expressions of consolation for loss of property or business and those used for bereavement, explaining the cultural difference.
- Apply the correct phrase of consolation to a given scenario involving business loss, fire, theft, or property damage.
- Role-play a short dialogue in which one student comforts a classmate who has suffered a business or property loss, using at least two Arabic expressions correctly.
- Reflect on the emotional impact of losing property or business in the Ghanaian context (e.g., a market trader’s shop burning down) and explain why empathy matters when offering comfort.
