Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.1.LI.1 - Explain the need for leisure time.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define leisure time in their own words and give at least two examples of leisure activities.
  2. Explain at least three reasons why leisure time is important for human wellbeing.
  3. Describe how leisure time helps in regaining lost energy after hard work, with reference to their own experience.
  4. Reflect on their own use of time and identify at least one way they can create more leisure time in their weekly routine.
  5. Demonstrate respect for others’ choices of leisure activities during group discussions and presentations.

General Learning Approach: In the context of schools with large sizes, the RMEC should utilize case studies, video watching (movie scenes), drama/role play that will offer opportunities for discussions afterwards.
Where appropriate the following pedagogies may also be implemented:
Activity-Based Learning: With the aid of flipcharts or sticky notes, undertake a gallery walk on the definitions of leisure time and what individual learners do during their leisure time.
Digital Learning: Create group word clouds on leisure time based on the submissions made during the gallery walk.
Collaborative Learning: In mixed-ability groups, discuss the importance of leisure time.
Enquiry Route Learning: The meaning of leisure. The need for leisure. eg. to regain lost energy after a long period of hard work, for reflection, meditation, and the study of the scripture.
