Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.1.LI.2 - Examine the challenges of law enforcement in Ghana and how these challenges can be addressed

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least four major challenges facing law enforcement institutions in Ghana, including political interference, bribery and corruption, and lack of public education.
  2. Explain how each identified challenge undermines the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, the Judiciary, and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
  3. Analyse the impact of these challenges on different groups in Ghanaian society, including women, youth, and marginalised communities.
  4. Propose at least three practical and innovative measures to address the identified challenges, justifying why each measure would be effective.
  5. Evaluate the role of citizens, civil society, and the government in supporting law enforcement reform in Ghana, drawing on evidence from real-life cases and media reports.
