Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.1.LI.2 - Examine the challenges of law enforcement in Ghana and how these challenges can be addressed
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least four major challenges facing law enforcement institutions in Ghana, including political interference, bribery and corruption, and lack of public education.
- Explain how each identified challenge undermines the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, the Judiciary, and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
- Analyse the impact of these challenges on different groups in Ghanaian society, including women, youth, and marginalised communities.
- Propose at least three practical and innovative measures to address the identified challenges, justifying why each measure would be effective.
- Evaluate the role of citizens, civil society, and the government in supporting law enforcement reform in Ghana, drawing on evidence from real-life cases and media reports.
