SHS3 General Science · Semester 2, Week 11

The Human Body and Health

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.4.1.LI.1 - Discuss heredity using traits observed in humans.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define heredity and distinguish between inherited traits and acquired characteristics using examples from their own families.
  2. Identify at least five observable human traits (such as tongue rolling, attached or free earlobes, and dimples) and classify them as dominant or recessive where applicable.
  3. Explain why offspring resemble their parents but are not identical to them, using the concepts of genes and the combination of parental characteristics.
  4. Discuss, in small groups, how traits are passed from one generation to the next and present examples of traits observed across generations in a family.
  5. Use digital resources or pictures to explore and report on one additional human trait not discussed in class, demonstrating how it varies among individuals.
