Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.3 - Discuss disorders associated with the respiratory system.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five common disorders of the respiratory system and describe their main signs and symptoms.
  2. Explain how smoking damages the structure and function of the lungs, using evidence from pictures, models, or videos.
  3. Compare and contrast the causes, effects, and prevention of two respiratory disorders, such as asthma and tuberculosis.
  4. Discuss how the energy released during respiration (covered in earlier lessons) is affected when respiratory disorders limit air movement.
  5. Justify the importance of early diagnosis and healthy lifestyle choices in preventing or managing respiratory disorders.
