Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.3.4.2.1 - Show the ability to engage in critical reading of a text by indicating how word changes meanings and understanding.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify key words in a given Arabic text and explain why those words stand out to them.
  2. Distinguish between the dictionary meaning and the contextual meaning of unfamiliar Arabic words.
  3. Determine the type of writing (narration, description, argument, dialogue, etc.) of a given Arabic passage and justify their answer.
  4. Explain how changing a single word in a sentence alters the overall meaning of the text.
  5. Use dictionary skills to find the literary meanings of new Arabic words and compare these with their inferred contextual meanings.
