Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Use a colon to:
  - introduce a list.
  - introduce speech in plays.
  - separate chapters from verses.
  - separate hours from minutes.
- Use a semi-colon to:
  - separate two independent clauses when a coordinating conjunction is not used.
  - separate different items in a list that has commas.
- Use an apostrophe to:
  - show possession in singular and plural nouns.
  - indicate indefinite case of possessive pronouns
  - indicate possessive form of the last word in compound nouns
  - show names of business firms
  - show contraction.
- Construct texts and punctuate them correctly.
