Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.2.1.3.9 - Experiment and practise by using the techniques of rhythm (i.e., beat, tempo, intensity), dynamics (i.e. fast, slow, smooth, flow) in dance and drama.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define rhythm and dynamics and identify the elements of each (beat, tempo, intensity for rhythm; fast, slow, smooth, flow for dynamics) in their own words.
  2. Demonstrate at least three different dance movements that show a change in tempo, moving from slow to fast and back to slow.
  3. Practise and perform a short choreographed movement sequence of 16 counts that combines contrasting dynamics (sharp fast movements and smooth slow movements).
  4. Critique a peer’s performance using the correct vocabulary of rhythm and dynamics, giving one strength and one area for improvement.
  5. Create a brief drama scene of about 30 seconds that uses changes in beat and intensity to show a change in emotion or mood.
