Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.1.3.1.3 - Demonstrate ability to apply the design process to create artefacts that solve specific problems in the local community.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least three specific problems in their local community that can be solved through design.
  2. Apply the five stages of the design process (Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test) to plan a solution for one selected community problem.
  3. Create a model artefact using low-cost local materials that addresses the identified community problem.
  4. Present their prototype to peers and collect feedback for improvement.
  5. Justify their choice of materials and tools based on availability, cost and suitability for the intended purpose.
