Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.3.1.1.2 - Demonstrate ability to read words with long vowels and prolonged doubled consonant in shadda words.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the three Arabic long vowels (alif, waw, yaa) and the shadda sign when they appear in a fully-vowelised text.
  2. Read aloud words containing long vowels with correct lengthening of the sound (two counts).
  3. Read aloud words containing shadda with correct doubling and holding of the consonant sound.
  4. Distinguish between a word read with a short vowel, a long vowel, and a shadda in paired word comparisons.
  5. Read the short passage from the exemplars fluently, applying correct pronunciation of long vowels and shadda words.
