Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.3.4.1.3 - Discuss the usefulness of different farming systems

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain at least two reasons why a farmer in their community would choose land rotation over continuous cropping.
  2. Compare the usefulness of mixed cropping and mixed farming in terms of food security and income for a Ghanaian smallholder farmer.
  3. Justify the choice of organic farming for a family that wants healthy food without expensive chemical inputs.
  4. Evaluate the merits and demerits of at least three farming systems by participating in a class debate with clear arguments for each side.
  5. Tabulate the reasons behind the use of the five farming systems studied in previous weeks (land rotation, crop rotation, mixed cropping, mixed farming, and organic farming).
