Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.3.1.1.3 - Identify the end product of digestion of starchy, protein and oily foods and explain how absorption of the digested food occurs in humans
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State the end products of digestion for starchy foods, protein foods, and oily foods (sugar/glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids respectively).
- Draw a simple flow chart linking each food type to its digested end product.
- Describe the pathway of absorption of digested food in humans, including the role of the small intestine and villi.
- Explain in their own words why digested food must be in liquid or soluble form before it can pass into the blood.
- Use simple food tests (iodine for starch, Benedict’s solution for glucose) to confirm that digestion changes foods into new substances.
