Indicator: B7.3.1.1.2 - Examine what happens to food at the stages of digestion in humans
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and name at least eight parts of the alimentary canal using a labelled drawing of the human digestive system.
- Describe what happens to a piece of boiled yam or cassava in the mouth, stomach, small intestine and large intestine, stage by stage.
- State the role of enzymes, acid and bile in the breakdown of food during digestion.
- Draw and correctly label the main organs of the human digestive system.
- Compare what happens to different types of food (starchy, protein, oily) at each stage of digestion.
