Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.3.1.1.2 - Examine what happens to food at the stages of digestion in humans

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and name at least eight parts of the alimentary canal using a labelled drawing of the human digestive system.
  2. Describe what happens to a piece of boiled yam or cassava in the mouth, stomach, small intestine and large intestine, stage by stage.
  3. State the role of enzymes, acid and bile in the breakdown of food during digestion.
  4. Draw and correctly label the main organs of the human digestive system.
  5. Compare what happens to different types of food (starchy, protein, oily) at each stage of digestion.
