Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.4.1.1.1 - Discuss the early life and call of the religious leaders

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Narrate the early life and call of Jesus Christ, including His baptism and temptation.
  2. Describe the early life and call of Muhammad (SAW), from His birth in Makkah to His call to prophethood and Hijra to Madinah.
  3. Explain the early life and call of at least one indigenous Ghanaian religious leader, such as Okomfo Anokye or Egya Ahor.
  4. Identify the moral lessons from the call of these religious leaders.
  5. Demonstrate respect for the religious beliefs of others when discussing the lives of religious leaders from different faith traditions.

1. Show pictures or video clips to depict the birth and early life of religious leaders. E.g. Jesus Christ, Muhammad (SAW), Okomfo Anokye, Egya Ahor,Toha Zie,Togbe Tsali, etc. NOTE: Be sensitive in the use of visual images depicting Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (Sallahu Alaihi Wassalam). Sallahu Alaihi Wassalam (SAW.)) is an Arabic expression which means peace be upon him (PUBH) which Muslims use to show reverence to the Prophet Muhammad whenever his name is mentioned or written.
2. Summarise the birth and early life of religious leaders in the three major religions.
3. In groups, learners discuss the call of the religious leaders.
• Jesus Christ - His Baptism and Temptation
• Muhammad (SAW) - Born in Makkah; marriage to Khadija; call to prophethood; migration to Madinah (Hijra); forgiveness of the Quraysh and the farewell sermon.
• The call of an indigenous religious leader - Okomfo Anokye, Egya Ahor,Toha Zie,TogbeTsali, Osofo Okomfo Damoah, etc.
4. Role play the call of the religious leaders and show the moral lessons from the call.
