Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.3.1.4.1 - Use dependent and independent clauses appropriately in speaking and writing
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify independent and dependent clauses in given sentences and short passages.
- Distinguish between an independent clause and a dependent clause by testing whether a group of words can stand alone as a complete sentence.
- Combine dependent and independent clauses using subordinating conjunctions such as because, when, although, if, and since to form complex sentences.
- Write at least five original complex sentences that correctly combine a dependent and an independent clause.
- Use complex sentences appropriately in a short spoken response or written composition about a familiar topic.
