Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.3.1.1.5 - Use adverbs to modify verbs accurately at the phrase and sentence level
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define an adverb and identify adverbs in given sentences, stating which verb each adverb modifies.
- Use adverbs to modify verbs accurately in their own sentences at the phrase level (e.g. quietly whispered, ran swiftly).
- Construct complete sentences that include a verb modified by an adverb, choosing appropriate adverbs for the action described.
- Recognise how adverbs also give more information about adjectives (e.g. extremely difficult) and about other adverbs (e.g. incredibly quickly), building on the core work of modifying verbs.
- Improve a short paragraph by inserting suitable adverbs to make the actions clearer and more vivid.
