Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.2.1.2.2 - Interpret non-fiction texts pointing out attitudes, opinions, biases and facts
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Distinguish between factual statements and opinion statements in a given non-fiction text, giving a reason for each classification.
- Identify the author’s attitude or tone (e.g., approving, critical, sympathetic, neutral) by examining the choice of words in a passage.
- Point out at least one bias in a non-fiction text and explain which words or phrases reveal that bias.
- Use evidence from a text to support their interpretation of the writer’s opinion on a given issue.
- Share and defend their own opinions about a topic in a short non-fiction text, clearly separating what is fact from what is their personal view.
