Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.1.1.4 - Use text structure to understand and read texts independently

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the topic sentence of a paragraph and explain the clue it gives about the text structure.
  2. Name the five common text structures: description, sequence, problem and solution, cause and effect, and compare and contrast.
  3. Use a graphic organiser (chart) to map out the structure of a given short text.
  4. Read a short text independently and state which text structure the author used and how it helped them understand the text.
  5. Write one short paragraph that follows a specific text structure of their choice.
