Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.1.1.4 - Apply the techniques in pattern making using available media to create visual artworks

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five pattern making techniques (such as sponging, stippling, string pulling, crayon batik, and spattering) and describe the media used for each.
  2. Demonstrate the correct use of at least two pattern making techniques to create repeating patterns on paper.
  3. Create one original visual artwork that combines two or more pattern making techniques using available and low-cost media.
  4. Display completed pattern artworks and use appropriate language to give supportive peer and self-evaluation, for example, “The use of stippling created an interesting texture.”
  5. Reflect on the process of making patterns and suggest one improvement to their own technique for future work.

2. Apply relevant pattern making techniques with available media to create own visual artworks. Example of pattern making technique: sponging, veining, blowing, spraying, spattering, stippling, string pulling, wax-resist/crayon batik, marbling, scribbling, rubbing-in, rubbing-out, etc.
3. Display patterns for appreciation and reflection and use appropriate language to give supportive and informative peer and self-evaluation. Example: The use of dabbing was effective in creating a pattern.
