Creativity, Innovation and the Design Process

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.1.3.1.1 - Distinguish between creativity and innovation and their application for developing design solutions to problems in society.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define creativity and innovation in their own words and state at least two key differences between the two concepts.
  2. Sort given examples of design products into those that are creative, those that are innovative, and those that are both, giving a reason for each choice.
  3. Evaluate at least two design products (such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, or local artefacts) and explain how each applies creativity or innovation to solve a specific problem in society.
  4. Examine one artefact from their local community and identify one design challenge associated with it, then suggest a creative or innovative improvement.
  5. Reflect on their own approach to a simple creative task and note one way they used creative thinking or innovation to improve their work.
