Drawing, Shading, Colouring and Modelling for Design

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.1.2.1.1 - Explore available manual and digital tools, materials and techniques for outline drawing, shading and colouring to create designs from lines and simple shapes.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and name at least six manual tools and materials used for outline drawing, shading and colouring, stating one use for each.
  2. Demonstrate correct pencil holding techniques (tripod grip, underhand grip) and explain when each is appropriate.
  3. Create a design from lines and simple shapes using outline drawing, at least two shading techniques (hatching and cross-hatching or stippling) and two colours.
  4. Document their exploration by completing a simple table that records the tools, materials and techniques they tried, including their suitability.
  5. Present their finished line and shape design to a partner, giving one piece of feedback and receiving one piece of feedback for improvement.
