Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.1.1.1.1 - Demonstrate understanding of design as a concept and its importance and role as a medium for creative expression of design in nature and the manmade environment.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define design in their own words and distinguish between design found in nature and design created by humans.
- Explain at least three reasons why design is important in daily life, giving one example from nature and one from the manmade environment.
- Identify and describe two examples where a natural design has inspired a manmade design, such as the kingfisher bird and the Shinkansen Bullet Train.
- Compare and contrast one natural design with one manmade design of their choice, recording at least two similarities and two differences.
- Create a simple sketch or illustration showing how a natural form they have observed could inspire a useful manmade object.
