Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.1.2.1.5 - Propose environmentally responsible practices that can be used to reduce the negative impact of computers and computer use on the environment

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State at least four environmentally responsible practices that reduce the negative impact of computers on the environment.
  2. Explain how each practice helps to reduce harm to the environment, using examples from their own community.
  3. Evaluate at least three environmentally responsible practices by discussing their benefits and challenges.
  4. Propose a practical plan to manage e-waste effectively in a specific local environment.
  5. Justify their choice of e-waste management measures, giving reasons based on the local context.

This lesson builds directly on the negative impacts of computers (B7.1.2.1.4) covered in Week 6, and prepares learners for creating a component from disposed computer parts (B7.1.2.1.6) in Week 8.

Source document note

The official curriculum document has a fault in this entry, so the curriculum text above is transcribed exactly as printed:

  • sub strand name - printed 'INTHE' with no space. The JHS document never prints the spaced form, but NaCCA's own primary Computing curriculum names the same sub-strand 'TECHNOLOGY IN THE COMMUNITY' (b4/b5/b6-computing.csv). sub_strand_name becomes the lesson topic a teacher sees, so the missing space is closed.
