Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.6.2.1.4 - Identify entrepreneurial opportunities in the locality

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State at least five entrepreneurial opportunities available in their own locality, citing specific examples of businesses that exist there.
  2. Explain the difference between a business idea and an entrepreneurial opportunity, using examples from their locality.
  3. Conduct a simple observation or interview with a local entrepreneur and record at least three findings about how the business started, its challenges, and possible solutions.
  4. Present their findings clearly to the class, speaking confidently and responding to questions from peers.
  5. Combine information gathered from observations and interviews to draw a conclusion about which entrepreneurial opportunity is most viable in their locality and justify their choice.

2. Research for entrepreneurial opportunities
E.g., mechanical engineering, welding, fitting, hairdressing, car washing, catering, masonry, block work, wood work, tiling, fashion designing, farming (fish and agriculture)) in the locality.
3. Write down the names of some popular enterprises seen in your locality.
4. Visit a few enterprises in your potential trade area and find out the following:
- How the business was started
- The challenges the business is facing
- Solutions to the challenges
5. Write down the findings for presentation in class
