Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.5.4.1.2 - Demonstrate skills of making artefacts/products in sewing and crocheting

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify and name at least four basic sewing stitches (tacking, running, back stitch, overcasting) and three basic crochet stitches (chain, slip stitch, double crochet, treble).
Demonstrate the correct procedure for making each basic sewing stitch on a fabric specimen.
Demonstrate the correct procedure for making basic crochet stitches using yarn and a crochet hook.
Produce finished specimens of sewing and crochet stitches that are neat, even and properly tensioned.
Display their finished specimens for appraisal and give constructive feedback on the work of peers.

This lesson connects to what learners did in Week 6, where they used moist cooking methods to prepare food products. In this lesson, they apply similar care and precision to making textile artefacts. The lesson prepares them for Week 8, where they will move on to making mock-ups using compliant materials.
