JHS1 Career Technology · Term 3, Week 3

Designing

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.5.2.1.1 - Work with a given design brief

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Read and study a given design brief, and identify the core problem stated in it.
  2. Analyse the identified problem by breaking it down into its key parts and constraints.
  3. List at least three possible ideas for solving the problem described in the design brief.
  4. Discuss and compare their solution ideas in small groups, and present one agreed idea to the class with reasons.

This lesson builds on learners’ earlier understanding of the design process from Term 3, Week 1 and Week 2, and prepares them for the next slot (Term 3, Week 4, B7.5.2.1.2) where they will generate and develop ideas in more detail. This week, the focus is on understanding the brief and identifying the problem, not yet on producing detailed final designs.
