Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.3.2.1.3 - Demonstrate how to care for and maintain cutting and shaping tools used for production

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State at least three reasons why cutting and shaping tools must be cleaned and maintained regularly.
  2. Identify the correct cleaning agents for tools made from different materials, such as stainless steel, carbon steel and wood.
  3. Demonstrate the step-by-step procedure for cleaning, oiling and storing at least two cutting or shaping tools correctly.
  4. Explain the difference between daily maintenance and periodic maintenance of tools.
  5. Apply the correct safety precautions when cleaning and maintaining cutting and shaping tools.
