Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.2.1.2 - Distinguish between the types of resistant materials

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Sort at least 10 different resistant materials into their correct categories: wood (hardwood, softwood, manufactured boards), metals (ferrous, non-ferrous, alloys, smart), and plastics (thermosetting, thermoplastic).
State at least two key characteristics of each main category of resistant materials (wood, metals, plastics).
Compare and contrast thermosetting plastics with thermoplastics, giving at least one example of each.
Distinguish between ferrous and non-ferrous metals based on their iron content.
Present a sorted collection of resistant material samples to the class and justify the reasoning behind their categorisation.
